The Auburn Tigers nearly won the national championship last year but fell just short thanks to Jameis Winston and the Florida State Seminoles, but a new season means another shot at a title and the best way to get on the right path for a national championship berth is to get a hot start to the season.

That’s what happened on Saturday when the Tigers rolled the Arkansas Razorbacks 45-21 in a much more convincing win than Auburn’s brethren in Alabama had. While the Crimson Tide limped to a win against the West Virginia Mountaineers, the Auburn Tigers were in control from the start against Arkansas and it was a dominating performance fans wanted to see.

Auburn’s offense was so explosive on Saturday that the sky literally exploded — with lightning. A lengthy delay due to lightning took the players off the field but didn’t take the fight out of the Tigers. Coming back from the delay, the Tigers scored one last time thanks to a Corey Grant touchdown run that made the score a 45-21 deficit for the Razorbacks.

Cameron Artis-Payne had an outstanding game going for 178 yards and a touchdown but there was concern when quarterback Nick Marshall had to leave the game with an injury. He finished the season opener throwing just six passes before Jeremy Johnson finished out the win throwing for over 250 yards and two touchdowns.

Auburn looked impressive in their season opener and while it’s a long road through the SEC to the national championship game, the Tigers are off to a hot start.
