In his absence true sophomore Jeremy Johnson was outstanding and completed 12 of his 16 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. Seven of his completions and 138 yards and one touchdown went to first-year junior-college transfer D’haquille “Duke” Williams as the Tigers tied the Arkansas Razorbacks 21 at half.
With numbers like that how could Gus Malzahn sit him and bring in Marshall?
Well, that’s exactly what he did as Marshall was on the field as Auburn began the second half.
Marshall showed no rust and looked like a true difference-maker and potential Heisman Trophy candidate leading the Tigers down the field for a touchdown on the opening series. He completed all three of his passed for 34 yards and capped the drive with an 18-yard touchdown run to put Auburn up 28-21.
The old saying is, “if you have two quarterbacks, you have none” certainly doesn’t look to apply here as Auburn has two outstanding quarterbacks capable of leading the team to a number of wins.
