Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller, the two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, may be gone for the Buckeyes, but he’s not forgotten.

More from College Football

Tight end Jeff Heuerman, one of the Buckeye co-captains tweeted Saturday morning that he will be wearing Miller’s No. 5 as a tribute to his injured teammate:

Miller is out for the season after sustaining an injury to his right shoulder while throwing a pass in practice on Aug. 18.

Miller threw for 2,094 yards and 24 touchdowns with seven interceptions last season, while completing 63.5 percent of his throws. He also ran for 1,068 yards and 12 scores and was third in the Big Ten Conference with 3,162 total yards.

As a sophomore, Miller completed 58.3 percent of his passes for 2,039 yards and 15 touchdowns with six picks while rushing for 13 touchdowns and 1,271 yards.

He earned the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year award after both seasons.

Heuerman, a senior, caught 26 passes for 466 yards and four touchdowns last season for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes were ranked No. 5 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 6 in the USA Today coaches’ poll, both of which were conducted before Miller was injured.

Ohio State opens the season Saturday in Baltimore, taking on Navy at M&T Bank Stadium. The Buckeyes were 12-2 last season, losing their final two games to Michigan State in the Big Ten championship and to Clemson in the Orange Bowl.
