The NFL season is just a few days away as the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers will kick off the season this Thursday evening at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.

More from Denver Broncos

Although the excitement for the NFL season is in the air, this past week was actually the toughest part of the season for the majority of NFL teams. The final roster cuts for the 32 NFL teams meant that nearly 25 players on each team would be cut, and only a small majority would be making NFL practice squads.

The roster cuts are an unfortunate part of the business, as it essentially means dreams are broken and jobs are being lost. For Denver Broncos general manager and Hall of Famer John Elway, he said recently that the roster cuts are the toughest part of his job.

“Today is obviously the toughest part of my job,” Elway told Broncos media recently. “You have to cut them down to 75 guys and then to 53, and especially with all the hard work, it is hard breaking dreams. It is a difficult thing to say goodbye to the guys that work so hard, so it’s always a tough day.”

Elway is likely sharing the same sentiment as the rest of the NFL executives and general managers around the league who loathe roster cuts. Nobody enjoys cutting their players, but that is simply part of the game.

Thankfully we will get to the great part of the sport, the actual regular season, this weekend and FanSided will have all the coverage you need.
