During the entire preseason, the Miami Dolphins ran with Lamar Miller as their starting running back.

More from Miami Dolphins

Part of that might have been the fact that Knowshon Moreno, who the team signed in the offseason, wasn’t healthy enough to see the field. But alas, Miller was the starter and it was presumed that he would enter the season with the role.

Some suggested that the ‘title’ was nothing more than that and the two would split carries, which seems incredibly likely now after the Miami Herald suggests Lamar Miller has lost his starting running back job to Knowshon Moreno.

"Even if Miller is the player introduced with the starters — which he might not be — it is clear Knowshon Moreno is Miami’s lead running back. Miller, who was the starter and unchallenged all preseason, has lost his job as Miami’s lead back."

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald goes on to suggest that the Dolphins have created a sub-package just for Lamar Miller, another sign that Moreno has taken over the starting duty.

It seems as if the Miami Dolphins did everything they could to hand the job to Miller but the running back simply couldn’t cut the mustard as his 3.4 yards per carry average (often against second-team defenders) wasn’t getting it done.

Moreno of course, who last played for the Denver Broncos, has proven himself in the past and may run with the Miami Dolphons running back job if Lamar Miller continues to have issues.

Certainly has to be a blow to the confidence of Miller considering he, along with most, believed he would be given the starting nod out of camp.
