It isn’t all that often the Heisman Trophy returns to school (although it has happened more lately).

More from College Football

Florida State Seminoles’ quarterback Jameis Winston, who became the second freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, had no choice but to return to school for his redshirt sophomore season. Winston had a bit of trouble in his season debut. He threw two interceptions and his Seminoles, who won every regular season games by at least 14 points last year, had to hold off the Oklahoma State Cowboys 37-31. Although the Seminoles won and Winston finished 25-of-40 for 370 yards with a touchdown pass and a 28-yard touchdown run, he has seen his odds to repeat as the winner fall.

Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, who went 14-of-20 for 267 yards with three touchdowns while rushing for 43 yards and another touchdown, in 62-13 win over South Dakota, is right behind him.

Georgia running back Todd Gurley was the big winner, seeing his odds go from 14/1 to 7/1. Gurley rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries and returned a kick 100 yards for a touchdown in Georgia’s 45-21 win over the Clemson Tigers.
