The first week of college football is now in the books.  As with every season, tracking just who may be in the lead for the Heisman award is a week by week process.  For the hopefuls, the most reputable source for doing so is the Heisman Pundit.  After the first week, we now have a live look as to where things stand going into week 2.

More from College Football

In the first Heisman Pundit Straw Poll, here is how things shook out.  First place votes are in parenthesis.

1. Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia — 23 (5)

2. Kenny Hill, QB, Texas A&M — 14 (2)

3. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon — 13 (3)

4. Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State — 5

5. (tie) Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska — 1

Tyreek Hill, RB, Oklahoma State — 1

Eric Kendricks, LB, UCLA — 1

Jordan Westerkamp, WR, Nebraska — 1

Taysom Hill, QB, BYU  — 1

Todd Gurley put himself in the forefront of the discussion thanks to a ridiculous performance in week one.  Carrying the ball for 293 yards and four touchdowns, Gurley put the Bulldogs on his back.  Kenny Hill was no slouch either slinging the football for over 500 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Many believe Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston will again be near the top in 2014.  Mariota had a very solid opening contest against South Dakota compiling over 250 yards and 4 touchdowns.  However, he sat out the entire second half as Oregon rolled to a 62-13 victory.

Mariota likely has the most to gain this week with Michigan State coming into town.  Look for the Heisman Pundit poll to continue to keep you up to date with the most accurate Heisman predictions throughout the 2014 season.
