Pete Carroll on playing against Eddie Lacy: ‘He’s a hammer’

While much of the focus on the Packers this season is squarely on quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is also very wary of the Packers’ second year running back Eddie Lacy.
“He’s a hammer,” coach Pete Carroll told Seahawks media on Monday. “He’s a really good football player. All the stuff we saw in college, he could really dominate games running tough and physical, he’s carried over to the league in what we’ve seen. We have a lot of respect for him. He’s a good catcher, too. You have to really wrap him up. He’s really calling for us to tackle well in this game.”
Tackling Lacy is no easy task, as he has shown time and again that he will easily break through weak arm tackles. Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn noted that tackling has been a major focus this offseason as the team looks to continue their reputation as being the league’s best defense.
“One of our goals is to be the best fundamental team, and that really is about tackling and our opportunity to take the ball away,” Quinn told the media after practice. “So we’ve worked tackling hard, all through camp, all through the preseason. Now it’s another chance to go work that. For us, that’s a really core part of our defense – the way we tackle. It’s something we spend a lot of time on.”
With the Seahawks having arguably the best defensive backs in the league, you can be sure the Packers will be running with a heavy does of Lacy. On Thursday night we will find out just how good the Seahawks are at tackling the mammoth of a running back.
