According to a report, the St. Louis Cardinals will get a piece of their starting rotation back on Thursday, when right-hander Michael Wacha returns from the disabled list.

Wacha has missed nearly three months because of a stress fracture in his shoulder, but according to CBSSports.com, Wacha will start Thursday when the Cardinals open a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

The Cardinals just moved ahead of the Brewers for first place in the National League Central on Monday.

Wacha was 5-5 with a 2.79 ERA and 1.118 WHIP in 15 starts and 90.1 innings before he went down after pitching six innings against the New York Mets on June 17. Wacha was 4-1 with a 2.78 ERA and 1.098 ERA in 15 appearances, nine starts, and 64.2 innings as a rookie for the Cardinals last season.

The 23-year-old was 4-1 in five postseason starts, including two scoreless outings against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.

Wacha worked two innings and threw 34 pitches in a rehab start with Double-A Springfield over the weekend. He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out one.

He was a first-round pick, 19th overall, by the Cardinals in the June 2012 amateur draft out of Texas A&M.
