Twitter to get a Facebook overhaul

Well Twitter fans, the superior platform when it comes to gathering news and following updates could be coming to an abrupt end.  Twitter’s chief financial officer, Anthony Noto seems to have lost connection with what makes his service great, and Twitter could be ending their own reign of supremacy.

Twitter unveiled its quarterly financials earlier this year and CEO Dick Costolo provided some not so great answers in regards to Twitter experiencing a Facebook like change in regards to its filtering-algorithm.

Anthony Noto has made some recent comments that not only make the Facebook style change seem like a possibility, but worse that it is a forgone conclusion.

The Wall Street Journal quoted Noto at a financial conference Wednesday as he discussed group chats being the future, and the reverse chronological order of Twitter being a thing of the past.  He said, “Twitter’s timeline is organized in reverse chronological order… but this isn’t the most relevant experience for a user. Timely tweets can get buried at the bottom of the feed if the user doesn’t have the app open, for example. Putting that content in front of the person at that moment in time is a way to organize that content better.”

Sorry Noto, but you couldn’t be more disconnected and wrong.  You see, there is a search function associated with every platform Twitter is connected to.  I can search for more tweets regarding a certain subject, but the last thing I want is my timeline dictated to me.

Also, based on Twitter’s algorithm, should you be deemed irrelevant as an account, prepare to have your reach on the social media platform snuffed.  No longer will your tweets be communicated to the masses, only to those where you are deemed relevant.

The change has yet to be made, and the outcry has already been strong.  Should this large shift take place, expect the social media platform to experience plenty of scrutiny on its own.
