J.J. Watt recently cashed in on an incredible start to his career. After three seasons with the Houston Texans, Watt has totaled 36.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, and 217 total tackles. He was rewarded with the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history. Still, Denver Broncos sack master and Watt-admirer Von Miller doesn’t think that’s enough.

More from Denver Broncos

“He’s underpaid in my opinion,” Miller said via USA Today. “What he does for the Texans, no one else does that for their organization, none of the big-time quarterbacks that are getting the big-time deals do. J.J. Watt deserves a similar deal. He does everything on the field, everything off the field. It was well deserved. I think he should have gotten more.”

Putting aside any concern over a man guaranteed to make $51 million having enough money, one natural reaction to Miller’s words might be that this is a contract game. Miller wants to plant the seed now that he deserves at least that much when it’s his turn to hit the negotiating table. That may be, but Miller wouldn’t go there.

“We’ve got great guys in the front office. I’ve got great guys that represent me. I’ll let them take care of it,” Miller said.

Given Miller’s suspension history, it’s unlikely he or any defensive player will be touching J.J. Watt’s contract level any time soon.
