There are a lot of coaches who hate talking to the media but no one says less than New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Perhaps maybe his desire to not talk to the media comes from his lineage. After all he was a protege of Bill Parcells who loathed speaking to the media.

More from New England Patriots

Belichick never used to be like this, as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns he was much more giving which really isn’t saying much so perhaps it was the brutal fan base and media in Cleveland who continued to push down with the microscope optics that broke the mans personality. Regardless of who is to blame there is no question that when it comes to talking to the media Bill Belichick isn’t going to give anything.

Belichick took to the podium today so he could stand above everyone else in defiance and give the perfunctory answers to appease the NFL rules on availability. ESPN Boston opted to post some of that back and forth Q&A.

"How it’s different without Tom at practice?“Jimmy [Garoppolo] steps in and does it. No different than any other position.”Is the calf injury chronic or a quick fix?“We’ve listed it on the report like we are required to do.”Any doubts on him starting Sunday against the Dolphins?“We’ll list it the way it is today.”Expect him to practice today?“We’ll list what happens.”How did he injure the calf?“We have done what we are required to do. We have listed the injury. We will continue to list it. We’ll list his status based on what the requirements of the league are.”"

The fact Belichick plays this game is more or less a slap at the NFL and the media. Belichick has been counseled by the NFL and the team has been punished in the past for not properly reporting injuries. Since then the Patriots report every single nick and bump that any player has especially with their quarterback who has pretty much been a staple on the injury report for years. The media of course hounds him for every little thing they can get.

Perhaps the NFL should force the Patriots to be showcased on next years HBO Hard Knocks series it would force them to say something and after all, Belichick does like cameras.
