Milliner suffered a high ankle sprain a little less than four weeks ago when he was injured on August 10 and has been sidelined ever since. Typically, high ankle sprains take longer to recover from compared to the lower ankle sprain and can take as long as four-six weeks to get back to hull health.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide product and No. 9 overall pick could be considered questionable for the team’s Week 2 game, but the Jets thin secondary will have go without him against the Raiders.
Recently converted safety Antonio Allen will start in his place with Kyle Wilson working in the slot. Leon McFadden who backs up Darrin Walls at the other cornerback position could also see an increased workload until Milliner can return to the lineup.
Milliner struggled mightily during his rookie season before coming on strong during the final month when he was named the AFC Defensive Rookie of the Month for December.
The Jets may be catching a break by playing the Raiders who start second round pick Derek Carr at quarterback, so if there was ever a time to miss a starting corner, it would be against a guy making his first career start. Having said that, the team needs him to come back as soon as possible and pick up where he left off in December.
