Bryce Petty active for Baylor, unlikely to play for Bears with back injury
Bryce Petty will dress for the Baylor Bears game against Northwestern State but is not expected to play, according to ESPN Central Texas’ David Smoak. He reports that Petty is not expect to start against NSU after suffering two cracks in the transverse process of his back during the first quarter of the Bears’ Week 1 win against SMU.

Petty was officially ruled day-to-day when the news of his diagnosis broke on Monday and later was designated as a game day decision for head coach Art Briles and now we know that decision is made.
The injury will not require surgery to repair the cracks in his back and is more of a pain tolerance issue more than anything for the seventh place finisher in last year’s Heisman Trophy voting and the reigning Big 12 player of the year.
With Petty out, Baylor will start Seth Russell at quarterback after he played the entire second half against SMU, completing 13-of-23 passes for 124 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Petty is not the only notable player out for the Bears tonight as receivers Antwan Goodley and Corey Coleman and running back Devin Chafin are not expected to play and Levi Norwood is officially out after wrist surgery.
