Earlier this week, linebacker James Harrison announced his retirement from the National Football League.

With a few days to sit back and think about his decision, Harrison has begun reflecting on his career and he has an idea of what he would like his legacy to be.

When people think of Harrison, he hopes that they remember him as a Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker who was your “typical” player in the black and gold that always put his best effort forward.

“Playing linebacker for the Steelers was about going out and holding up your end of the bargain and making sure it was something fans would talk about and people remember. That’s what I did,” Harrison said, via the team website. “I guess I want to be known as one of the typical Steelers linebackers, hard-working, and a guy that gave his all.

“The linebackers the Steelers have had from past Super Bowls and so forth, you don’t want to be the guy that comes in or the group that comes in and they are talking about Steelers of the past, teams of the past, this group was a great group of guys, these linebackers were a great group of linebackers. You don’t want to be the group that they say this group was okay. You want to be in that argument.”

Harrison was one of the most intimidating players in his prime and he worked his way to stardom.

It is probably safe to say that Harrison will have no trouble being remembered exactly how he wants to be and he will always be loved by the faithful Steelers Nation.

Oh, and he will always have this incredible Super Bowl play to hang his hat on.
