For the final time in the foreseeable future, provided they don’t meet in a bowl, the Michigan Wolverines and Notre Dame Irish will do battle on Saturday night.

More from College Football

Both teams are coming off of impressive showings, albeit against inferior opponents. The Wolverines got a bit of revenge for their historic loss back in 2007, blowing out Appalachian State 52-14.

Quarterback Devin Gardner, who has had his struggles in his career, got his senior season off to a fantastic start. He completed 13-of-14 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns. In the Wolverines’ 41-30 victory over the Irish last year, Gardner was excellent. He completed 21-of-33 passes for 294 yards with four touchdowns and one interception and rushed for 82 yards and a score on 13 carries.

Of course, the last time these two teams met, the Irish were without quarterback Everett Golson, who returned from his one-year suspension last week, completing 14-of-22 passes for 295 yards with two touchdowns in the Irish’s 48-17 victory over the Rice Owls. . Golson’s only loss as a starter came in the Irish’s loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the National Title Game.

This game has been fantastic over the last few years and there is no reason to expect it to be any different Saturday night.  The Irish are 3.5 point favorites and the home team has won each of the last three meetings.
