Former South Carolina Gamecocks’ defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was regarded as one of the most talented prospects to enter the NFL in some time.

More from Houston Texans

That’s why the Houston Texans seemingly did not hesitate to make Clowney, who declared for the draft after his junior year, the number-one overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

After a fantastic sophomore season, Clowney fought through injuries and constant double (and sometimes triple) teams in his final season in South Carolina. Clowney was often criticized and many believed he may be taking it easy because he seemed like a sure number-one pick.

On Sunday afternoon, Clowney made his regular season debut as the Texans played host to the Washington Redskins. Unfortunately, Clowney’s debut didn’t make it to halftime. Clowney limped off of the field and headed to the locker room in the final minutes of the half.

The Texans have called Clowney’s ailment a knee injury and he will not return.

Although the Texans would obviously love to have their top-overall pick on the field, they have done just fine thus far. They have got consistent pressure on Redskins’ quarterback Robert Griffin III and have a 14-6 lead.
