Lou Holtz would put Notre Dame in the playoff as of today
By Dan Zinski
We’re only a week into the college football season and actually know nothing, but that won’t stop people from already filling in their four-team playoff brackets. People just love their brackets!

ESPN analyst and former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz has already submitted his four team playoff field for this first year of the new system and…oh, look who Lou has as his No. 2 seed.
Notre Dame. Shocking!
The funny part? It’s not Lou putting Notre Dame in his four team field, it’s him having them as the 2 seed.
The Irish don’t just squeeze into the field by virtue of their complete pantsing of hapless Michigan, they get a 2 seed!
So, by Lou’s estimation, Notre Dame is the second best team in the country right now. Because they beat pathetic Michigan.
But they didn’t only beat Michigan, they shut them out!
Annihilating a Big 10 team vaults you all the way to a #2 seed in the playoff. But Alabama and Florida State are out.
Lou does concede that Auburn is probably better than Notre Dame right now. But he has Notre Dame seeded above Oregon and Oklahoma.
Georgia, not even in the conversation for Holtz. Not even worthy of honorable mention.
In Lou’s defense, the whole exercise of naming a playoff field this early is ludicrous, so if he wants to use it to wave the Notre Dame pom poms…so be it.
It’s just so Lou Holtz to have Notre Dame as the #2 seed in the playoff off a defeat of Michigan. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
