By Bryan Rose
The Jacksonville Jaguars expect big things out of running back Toby Gerhart this season, though they’ll need him healthy to reach such lofty goals.

So far that hasn’t proven to be the case as the former Minnesota Vikings backup suffered an injury in Jacksonville’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, though he did eventually return to the game. That said, he wasn’t very effective upon his return and there was fear that he may have suffered an injury that could linger.
Thankfully that isn’t the case as the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that Toby Gerhart has nothing more than a sprained ankle and while he’ll be limited in practice, he’s currently day-to-day.
Some believe Gerhart was tackled illegally by defensive end Fletcher Cox which lead to the injury, though currently it does not appear the NFL will direct any fines at the Philadelphia Eagles for the takedown.
Of course, a sprained ankle isn’t always an easy injury to recover from as a high-ankle sprain is very painful and can linger for a significant amount of time. However, it appears Gerhart avoided the dreaded injury and suffered a more typical sprain.
Barring a setback, it’s believed that the Jacksonville Jaguars will give Toby Gerhart limited to zero work for the next day or two before working him back into the practice fold. Assuming everything goes well, he’s expected to take the field against the Washington Redskins in Week 2.
