Aaron Rodgers to Richard Sherman: 'Hope you get some work'

Love it or hate it, the Green Bay Packers took a definitive approach on how they would handle Richard Sherman when they played the Seattle Seahawks Thursday night.

Aaron Rodgers, by many accounts, is the top quarterback in the game. One may think that when coach Mike McCarthy told his star quarterback the game plan, he might not have been so thrilled. But, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Rodgers had some fun with it when talking with Sherman after the game.

"On his ESPNMilwaukee radio show Tuesday afternoon, Rodgers not only explained the reason he did not throw a single pass toward Sherman but also shared what he said to him afterward.“I think I said, ‘I hope you get some work this year,'” Rodgers said on his show. “By that point, I knew that we hadn’t really looked to his side or thrown to his side, and I just said that to him, and I think we kind of laughed about it and went on the way.”"

The Packers put No. 3 receiver Jarrett Boykin on Sherman’s side of the field all night, basically making the second-year receiver the sacrificial lamb and hoping Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson could get open against the rest of the Seahawks secondary. They did not, and Green Bay’s passing game struggled to get anything deep. Rodgers threw for just 189 yards on 23 completions.

It will be interesting to see if other teams take this approach when facing Seattle. I mean, Sherman is the best corner in the game. He strictly plays on the right side of the field, so knowing where he is could be used to the advantage of the opposing offense. But with Earl Thomas roaming the back field and Sherman eliminating an entire side of it, it’s nearly impossible to complete anything deep consistently.

Something to watch for the rest of the NFL season.
