In an ESPN Sportsnation poll, fans were asked, “Which team would get your No. 1 vote in the college football Top 25?” Options given included current No. 1, Florida State as well as Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma and “another team.”

What this poll’s results told us, was everything we already knew, with a little twist.

Florida State is off to a bit of a shaky start. They barely got past unranked Oklahoma State in week one lucking out after an Oklahoma State fumble led them to a 37-31 win. Then, they only beat The Citadel, a blowout opportunity, 37-12. Some may call this a blow out, but more would call Texas A&M’s 73-3 win over Lamar or Clemson’s 73-7 win over South Carolina State a real blow out.

Oregon has impressed. In their first week they blew out South Dakota 62-13 and then welcomed Rose Bowl champion No. 7 Michigan State to their home turf with a 28-3 second half leading to a 46-27 decisive victory. Oregon currently sits at No. 2 in the polls, but many thought their impressive performance against a top-10 team and Florida State’s not-so-awesome looking team should bump Oregon up to No. 1 for a week or two.

So did America.

Oregon has received 44 percent of the 211, 691 votes. The map shows the entire country in red (Oregon’s color on the poll) except just five other pesky states that were not about to allow this to be a unanimous decision. The state of Oklahoma bled yellow (Oklahoma’s color on the poll), the state of Alabama was green (Alabama’s color on the poll), Florida State was blue (Florida State’s color on the poll) and Louisiana and Georgia were orange (Another team’s color on the poll).

61 percent of those in Oklahoma feel their 2-0 Sooners should be No. 1. Just 34 percent of Alabamians prefer Alabama at the No . 1 spot due to Auburn also inhabiting the football-rich state. 40 percent of Floridians would like to see Florida State at No. 1 (and they do) obviously the Gators also inhabit the state. 42 percent in Louisiana and 40 percent in Georgia want a different team up there.

Obviously the Louisiana residents want their 10-ranked LSU team that beat Wisconsin in week one. And Georgia residents want their sixth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs leading the poll after their dominant victory over Clemson in week one led by running back Todd Gurley’s three touchdowns.

The story? It was the most predictable poll of all time.
