Colts’ Ahmad Bradshaw to take over for Trent Richardson?
The Indianapolis Colts have two running backs. They’ve got their 2013 trade acquisition, Trent Richardson. He’s their No. 1. Then they’ve got veteran Ahmad Bradshaw. He’s their No 2. But what happens when the No. 2 is clearly better than their No. 1?

Even the No. 1 thinks it’s time to share the rock.
“I think it’s going to be a good, equal load,” Richardson said, via the Indianapolis Star. “Ahmad knows that once I get tired or once I’m winded, when I look to that sideline or he looks to the sideline, we know how to complement each other. It can be a drive where we have it going. I might have to look to the sideline and say, ‘Come get me.’ And I know if he does that to go get him. We work well together.”
The more Brashaw gets touches, however, the more the Colts’ will have proof they’re wasting touches on Richardson.
ESPN.com’s Eric Karabell explained (subscription content) that it won’t so equal going forward. The only thing that’s lifting Richardson’s starter status is that he is a former third-overall selection and was worth a first-round pick in their trade with the Cleveland Browns. Draft status is a weak place to hang your helmet in the NFL. Other than that, Richardson has not showed that he belongs in the league. He averages 3.3 yards per carry in his three-year career with two teams. And while one excuse used to be that he was on the Browns — which was fair — he’s now in one of the NFL’s most potent offenses in Indianapolis. It may finally be sink or swim time for Richarson, and the big back looks like he’s sinking.
