It has been an up and down season for Washington Nationals’ outfielder Bryce Harper. He missed a large portion of the season with a thumb injury and then struggled to sustain consistent production for much of the summer.

With all of the attention that has already been paid to Harper in his young career, it is good to get a reminder every now and then of just how much raw talent the 21-year-old possesses. Speaking of reminders, it is good to take a step back and note that Harper is still only 21 years old.

As for his talent, Harper served serious notice on Saturday night with this mammoth second-deck home run against the New York Mets.

That is an area of Citi Field rarely reached during actual game action, and probably not very often in batting practice either. With that violent swing of his, even as it has been remade over his young career, Harper can hit the ball a long, long way when he runs into a pitch like he did on this night.

As for the Nationals, they are at the point now where they are fine tuning for the postseason with a National League East title all but officially in the books. Along those lines, Harper’s swing looks to be in fine form with the playoffs approximately two weeks away.
