Saturday night’s game between the 12th-ranked UCLA Bruins and Texas Longhorns was supposed to be a showdown of a National Title Contender in the Bruins against a former power who was rising the ranks under first-year Texas head coach Charlie Strong.

Instead, it is a match-up between two of the most disappointing teams in the country thus far.

The Bruins are 2-0 but have been anything but impressive. In week one, they scored just once on offense in a 28-20 road victory over the Virginia Cavaliers, then struggled in a 42-35 home win over the Memphis Tigers last week. The Longhorns took down the North Texas Mean Green 38-7 in week one but were dominated by the BYU Cougars in a 41-7 loss last week.

To make matters worse for the Longhorns, quarterback David Ash is again battling injuries, this time a concussion. He has had been ruled out “indefinitely” and has had to make way for sophomore quarterback Tyrone Swoopes. Swoopes has completed 20-of-31 passes for 176 yards with one touchdown and one interception this season.

Although they have struggled and are only nine-point favorites, it be quite the surprise to see the Longhorns pull off an upset.
