On Friday night the New York Mets squeaked out a close victory over the Washington Nationals, one of the few times they’ve been able to do such all season.

More from MLB

Understandably, Mets closer Jenrry Mejia was rather excited over the victory and decided to do an over the top dance after the final pitch. He’s of course not the first closer to be eccentric and irritating to the opposition, though there’s a time and a place for his antics.

According to the Washington Nationals, Friday night was not the right time.

After Mejia clinched the final out, he walked off the mound and began a rather odd dance and appeared to point in the direction of something, possibly the Washington Nationals bench.

As can be seen from Bryce Haper, who was on deck, he was none too pleased.

Harper wasn’t the only member of the Washington Nationals franchise to show displeasure with Mejia and the New York Mets as Washington outfielder Denard Span suggested there was no place for the celebration.

Even the most simple of celebrations can tick a player off and when a player gets overly demonstrative in their actions, it’s obviously going to ruffle some feathers.

Fair or foul on the part of Jenrry Mejia? Do the Nats have reason to be upset?
