This comes just one week after he tied the Alabama record for receptions in a game with 13 against Florida Atlantic.
Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. This isn’t against quality competition. Well, he did have 12 catches for 130 yards in the opener against West Virginia.
His 135 yards on Saturday moved him into third place on Alabama’s career receiving yards list, passing NFL Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome. Cooper’s 2,190 yards have come in just two seasons and three games!
Next on the list is current Atlanta Falcon Julio Jones, who racked up 2,653 yards in his three seasons at Alabama.
That leaves Cooper just 733 yards behind current leader DJ Hall, who racked up 2,923 yards from 2004-07 in an Alabama uniform.
Considering Cooper already has 454 yards receiving in just three games, that would put him past Hall in the October 25th tilt with the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville. If he can keep his current pace of 151 yards per game, that is.
That pace will likely go down some in SEC play, which begins this coming Saturday against the Florida Gators. A more realistic expectation would be for Cooper to capture the all-time record on November 15th against Mississippi State in Tuscaloosa. In order to do that, he would have to average 105 yards per game over the next seven games, which seems much more realistic.
Wouldn’t you rather see him break the record at home anyway instead of at Tennessee or at LSU?
