Good news for Bengals fans–and fantasy football players.

After being diagnosed with a ligament tear in the foot, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A. J. Green say he expects to play next Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

More from Cincinnati Bengals

This is good new for Cincy as nobody knows Green’s body better than he does. But his return should come with precaution. Winning games early in the season is important because it increases the teams chance of solidifying home-field advantage in the playoffs, but it’d be idiotic to sacrifice long-term goals–winning a playoff game then eventually a Super Bowl–for short-term success–defeating the Titans.

If the Bengals allow their play from Week 2 to carry over into Week 3, Green’s presence may not be need. Quarterback Andy Dalton managed an excellent game, the two-headed running back duo of Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill collected 150-plus yards combined and two touchdown, and the defense held a Matt Ryan coming off 400-plus yards to a 48.6 quarterback rating with the help of two sacks, three interceptions, and constant pressure by the defensive line. This trio of occurrences are gonna be key if the Bengals are–even for a short amount of time–forced to play sans-Green.

In a scenario where Green is unavailable for play come Sunday, the Bengals will likely go with Mahomed Sanu in his spot. Against the Falcons, Sanu caught a career-high 84 receiving yards and 1 touchdown.
