The Cincinnati Bengals improved to 2-0 on the season and look like another AFC North title could be in store for Marvin Lewis, but the win came at a cost as All-Pro receiver A.J. Green was lost on the opening series with a lingering toe injury.

More from Cincinnati Bengals

Green is believed to have a strained ligament in his toe, but the Bengals don’t appear to be losing any sleep over the extend of the injury as Lewis referred to the injury at Monday’s press conference that it is not a “long-term injury.”

Lewis did not elaborate on what his definition of what a “long-term injury” would be classified as, but this should give Bengals fans and fantasy owners of Green that he could be day-to-day or week-to-week with the toe injury.

Green did not record a catch in Sunday’s win but running back Giovani Bernard stepped up in his absence and finished with a team-high five receptions and finished second on the team with 79 receiving yards in addition to his 90 rushing yards and a touchdown on 27 carries.

The Bengals host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday before their bye week in Week 4 so the Bengals could sit Green for two weeks to ensure that he is as close to 100 percent as possible for the Week 5 meeting at the New England Patriots.

Green had 98 receptions for 1,426 yards and 11 touchdowns last year.
