Sammy Watkins posts first Buffalo Bills rookie 100-yard game in ten years
By Cory Buck
It took all of two games for Sammy Watkins to show football fans why Buffalo Bills GM Doug Whaley gave up so much to acquire his services. After a quiet debut in Solider Field against the Chicago Bears, Watkins broke out at home in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins, tallying 117 receiving yards and a touchdown. In so doing, Watkins was the first Bills rookie since Lee Evans in 2004 to exceed 100 yards catching.

“It was amazing just to see how the fans got involved. Just to have my first TD was amazing,” Watkins said in his post-game press interview. “As a team, we just have to keep giving our fans and our community something to believe in.”
He certainly did that on Sunday as the Bills trounced the Dolphins 29-10 in a game that could have been a lot more wide-open had the Bills red zone offense not repeatedly stalled and settled for field goals. Buffalo’s lone touchdown in the red zone came on a slant pass to Watkins, who hustled to the corner and beat Miami’s defenders by a hair to the corner pylon.
The Bills are hoping they can continue to find wins where few expect them on the heels of their stud rookie’s breakout game. Between Watkins and CJ Spiller, this team may have enough speed to keep up with anyone.
