The Los Angeles Dodgers have enjoyed a successful 2014 season and look well on their way to a National League West division title. One thing that has consistently been a problem, however, is the health of shortstop Hanley Ramirez.

Having dealt with a myriad of health issues this season, Ramirez was scratched from the Dodgers’ lineup on Tuesday night with a strained right elbow. Per Alana Rizzo:

Ramirez’s past injuries this season have been leg injuries, so this is a new issue for him. That said, lingering injuries have been a problem all season, with Ramirez scratched from the lineup a number of times and missing big chunks of games. This timing is might be even more unfortunate, however, with the postseason just a couple weeks away.

When he does play, Ramirez continues to be productive. In 119 games of action, the veteran is batting .278/.362/.445 with 13 home runs and 69 RBI. If he is in the lineup, he will be a key player for the Dodgers in pursuit of a World Series title.

Unfortunately for the Dodgers, his injury issues this season have likely forced them to consider backup plans for the postseason if he is not available with one ailment or another.
