Greg Monroe has signed his qualifying offer and will remain with the Detroit Pistons despite his desire to leave the team. He’s likely going to be stuck there for the entire season as well.

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors explains why Monroe won’t be traded.

"They can’t trade Greg Monroe without his consent, and while I imagine he wouldn’t mind getting shipped out of Detroit, he’d lose his Bird rights if he agrees to a trade. So, any team that would acquire him this season would have to use its cap space to re-sign him, and that’d be a problem for teams without cap flexibility. Plus, there’d be no way for him to get a fifth year or 7.5% raises in his new deal. So Monroe’s probably stuck on that roster. I could see them trying to offload Jonas Jerebko, but good luck with that. Maybe there’d be a taker for Will Bynum."

Monroe does want out but he doesn’t want to lose his bird rights and ruin his next team’s cap room. That’s why most, including Myron, expect him to play out the entire season in Detroit. He can up his value and become an unrestricted free agency next year.

Monroe put up 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 65.7% from the free throw line last season. Monroe, who was the seventh-overall pick in the first round of the 2010 draft, has averaged 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 50.8% from the floor and 67.8% from the foul line.
