Jeff Fisher likes Michael Sam, just not a fit with Rams
By Mike Dyce
The St. Louis Rams stepped up and drafted defensive lineman Michael Sam, but they were deep at his position and ultimately he didn’t make the 53-man final roster. The Dallas Cowboys signed Sam to their practice squad, and the two teams meat on Sunday.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher said during a Wednesday morning conference call that the Rams didn’t cut Sam because he wasn’t able to play in the NFL, that their depth and numbers didn’t permit them to hold on to Sam.
“Michael did a great job here,” Fisher said, via the Dallas Morning News. “He came in and worked really, really hard. We have exceptional depth on the defensive line. It was a numbers thing and he just didn’t make it. I was honored to give him an opportunity as I did any other college free agent and late draft choices.
“Mike did everything he could. Mike has shown that he has the ability to play in this league. He just was not a fit here.”
Sam has yet to break through from the practice squad to the Cowboys 53-man roster, but many suggested it was the perfect situation for Sam given the Cowboys’ depth at the position.
