On Wednesday a report surfaced the Minnesota Timberwolves were still looking to either buy out or trade veteran point guard J.J. Barea.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes the Timberwolves will likely wind up buying out Barea.

"At the rate this is going, I think you’ll probably wind up getting bought out, J.J. If there were takers in the trade market, I think they would have emerged, and there’s a deadline involved for the Wolves, who no doubt want to get you off the roster by the start of the season so that they can keep Glenn Robinson III."

Barea likely would have been dealt by now if teams were interested and unless the Timberwolves decide to hold on to him and wait for a team to trade for him in-season, buying him out does seem like the best option.

Barea went for 8.4 points, 3.8 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game while shooting 38.7% from the field, 34.7% from beyond the arc and 79.0% from the free throw line. Barea, a former Northeastern Huskies’ standout, began his career with Dallas Mavericks back in 2006 and spent the first five years of his career there, playing a major role for the Mavericks when they won the NBA Title in 2011. In his eight-year career,  he’s averaged 8.3 points, 3.4 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game while shooting 41.9% from the field, 34.7% from three and 79.8% from the charity stripe.
