If you were shocked by the news that New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram suffered a broken hand on Sunday afternoon, you’re not alone.

More from New Orleans Saints

It seems many on the New Orleans Saints coaching staff weren’t even aware that the running back had suffered the injury, though noticed something odd about the way he was taking the handoff. That lead to a further investigation which revealed that Mark Ingram had indeed suffered a broken hand.

The veteran was having the best start to his short career before the hand injury derailed his progress, though, the news may not be as bad as initially feared. Originally it was though that Mark Ingram would be out at least a month with the broken hand though New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton suggests he doesn’t believe the injury is ‘long term’.

What exactly that means seems to be up for interpretation though it sounds as if Mark Ingram could possibly return earlier than thought.

In the meantime, while Mark Ingram recovers, Khiry Robinson is expected to take over short yardage and goal line carries while Pierre Thomas’ role will also increase.

Hopefully Ingram won’t be sidelined very long and he’ll be able to continue dominating the New Orleans Saints rushing attack.
