Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future in doubt at Cardiff City

Cardiff City have been a mess since Vincent Tan took over as primary owner, at least that was the case off the pitch at first. Now the mess has extended to the play of Cardiff City on the pitch as well—as his hand-picked manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is struggling to get anything positive to happen.

The Bluebirds’ fans have endured Tan’s rebranding with the traditional blue and white colors of the club being replaced by red on the crest and on the kit. Now, they’ve endured a drop from the English Premier League all the way to 17th in the Championship.

It’s led to speculation over the future of Norwegian manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s future with the club. The Guardian in the UK is reporting that Solskjaer met with the club hierarchy about his future as manager in London this week.

Solskjaer took over for Malky Mackay in January but couldn’t keep Cardiff City up in the EPL, and with his 12-month rolling contract he is an easy target for removal.

Having won just five of his first 25 matches and one point from the last 12 available in charge of the Bluebirds, its easy to see why the unpredictable Tan could be getting antsy to see better results for his investment in the Welsh club.

The embattled manager realizes that better results must come given the investment made in him and the players by Tan.

“I’m responsible and I should get better results than this; [better] than what we’ve had in the first seven games,” he said after a recent loss, via The Guardian.

It could be that time and patience are needed with Solskjaer, especially given that he’s had 17 new players come in to the squad in the past nine months.

However, a few more losses and it may be that he is out of a job almost as quickly as Tim Sherwood was at Tottenham Hotspur.
