While the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and a slate of other NFL teams celebrate the return of their suspended players under the NFL’s new performance enhancing drug policy, the Miami Dolphins move forward as their suspended players Reshad Jones and Dion Jordan are not eligible to return earlier than expected.

According to a report from the Miami Herald, the players that were formerly suspended and are being reinstated are due to the fact that they tested positive for amphetamines. The old drug policy treated amphetamines the same as performance enhancing drugs, and therefore those players were suspended.

Under the new policy, which is retroactive, a positive amphetamines test in the offseason falls under the recreational drug policy. Instead of a suspension right off the bat, the players who tested positive for recreational drugs will be allowed counseling and extra testing.

It is important to note, however, that a positive test for amphetamines during the NFL season will be treated the same as before, meaning the players would get a suspension.

So why are the Miami Dolphins not able to reinstate Dion Jordan and Reshad Jones? Apparently, the fact that neither man will be reinstated under the new policy likely means that both Jordan and Jones tested positive for something other than amphetamines.

As of now, both Jordan and Jones are able to return after their four game suspension is completed. That means that both men will not be able to play for the next two weeks, and will be able to return to the Dolphins prior to Week 5 of the regular season.
