San Antonio Spurs’ swingman Kawhi Leonard has been a very good player since entering the league. He really burst onto the national scene with his excellent performance in the postseason. He was named the MVP of the NBA Finals as the Spurs rolled to a five-game series win over the Miami Heat.

With Leonard now eligible for an extension, many believe he will get max money.

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors would not give Leonard a max deal if he were the Spurs.

"Here’s the thing everyone forgets about Kawhi: For as good as he is, he’s not a superstar, at least not yet. How many guys get max deals when they’ve only scored 20 points for three games in a row on one occasion? I don’t expect him to get the max, but if the Spurs offer something relatively close, I’d take it if I were him."

The Spurs have gotten a few home town discounts in recent years, but young players like Leonard should cash in when they have the chance.

Leonard averaged 12.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.8 blocks per game while shooting 52.2% from the field, 37.9% from beyond the arc and 80.2% from the free throw line. In the playoffs, he put up 14.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 51.0% from the floor, 41.9% from three and 73.6% from the charity stripe.
