The New York Knicks made three major moves this offseason – they hired Phil Jackson as president, Derek Fisher as head coach and re-signed star forward Carmelo Anthony. Under Fisher and Jackson, the Knicks will be running the triangle offense.

According to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, Anthony will flourish in the triangle.

"I think the Knicks will do well with the triangle offense, but it’s probably going to take time for everyone to learn it and play to their full potential in the new system. I think it will really help Carmelo Anthony, as you said, and others should do well too. And if they don’t, then Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher can find pieces who will work next to Anthony in the triangle going forward. That’s definitely the direction that the team is heading in, so the players need to buy in or move on. I know a lot of the players have been trying their best to learn the system. For example, Iman Shumpert spent the past few months reading all of Jackson’s books and trying to learn and read up on the triangle. I think the fact that Jackson has had so much success will get players’ attention and make them want to buy in."

Anthony is clearly sold on the Knicks’ future plans and how he fits the system. If not, he likely would have joined the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets or Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason.

Anthony put up 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game and shot 45.2% from the field, 40.2% from beyond the arc and 84.8% from the free throw line last season. In his 11-year career, Anthony has gone for 25.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 45.5% from the floor, 34.5% from beyond the arc and 81.1% from the charity stripe.
