On Thursday, the Associated Press reported that the University of Connecticut and the University of Missouri have agreed to a home and home football series.

Connecticut will travel to Faurot Field on the Missouri campus on September 19th of next year. Missouri will make the trip to Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut for the UConn home game on September 23, 2017.

This does not have the appeal of a Ohio State-Notre Dame agreement, but is actually an improvement of the Tigers’ non-conference slate, which was looking pretty lean for next year.

The Tigers’ non conference schedule next year consists of Southeast Missouri State, Arkansas State, and now, Connecticut. They still have one more game to schedule. In 2017, they add Connecticut to Purdue as the only scheduled commitments so far. Considering that the big names are already scheduling for 2025 and beyond, their chances of drawing one of those appear slim.

This completes the out of conference schedule for the Huskies for both the 2015 and 2017 seasons already. In 2015, UConn adds Missouri to games with Villanova, Army, and BYU. Their 2017 slate will be Massachusetts, Holy Cross, Virginia, and Missouri. That looks like two tough games for the Huskies in 2017

UConn is currently 2-2 against teams from the Southeastern Conference. They beat Vanderbilt in 2010 and South Carolina in the Papa Johns.com Bowl after the 2009 season.

These two programs have never met on the Gridiron before. That is not much of a surprise considering Connecticut did not make the jump to FBS until 2005 when they joined the Big East conference.
