The San Antonio Spurs have proven themselves to be very good at two things during the past decade plus. They are very good at being the best team in the NBA and they’re very good at rebuilding what was thought to be a forgotten player. Might the next one be Michael Beasley?

More from NBA

No, not every project has worked out as the San Antonio Spurs would have hoped, though for the most part, many have. From Boris Diaw to Stephen Jackson, the San Antonio Spurs have a unique ability to reverse the fortune of a player who nobody else wants.

Is that the reason they’re showing interest in Michael Beasley? While the former No. 2 overall pick has received interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Beasley isn’t getting much love around the NBA and is probably thrilled the Spurs gave him a call given their track record.

Questioned how well Michael Beasley would play with the San Antonio Spurs, Ira Winderman suggests there could be somewhat of a career resurgence for the former Kansas State talent.

"You have to credit the Spurs with their thoroughness, and it’s difficult to believe that there isn’t an NBA team than couldn’t use Beasley’s streak scoring…But you’re right, from Boris Diaw to Stephen Jackson, those who couldn’t make it work elsewhere found a way to make it work in San Antonio."

For what it’s worth, the San Antonio Spurs have yet to give Michael Beasley a formal contract offer and have only invited him for a workout.
