Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints

Matt Cassel, Cordarrelle Patterson, and the rest of the Minnesota Vikings head to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this week for a showdown with Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham and the New Orleans Saints. Obviously this has been a rough week for the Vikings due to the off-the-field issues with star running back Adrian Peterson, but Minnesota will do their best to re-focus on the game to try and beat the winless Saints.

Keys to Victory

The Vikings have to readjust their offensive philosophy on the fly after losing Peterson. Cassel is coming off a truly atrocious showing against the New England Patriots in his team’s week 2 loss. If Minnesota is going to have any chance in this game, Cassel will have to protect the football. The more that Minnesota can get the ball in the hands of Patterson, the better for their chances to win.

As for the Saints, they will enter this game desperate for a victory after starting their season off with two losses on the road. They have heard all of the statistics about 0-2 teams and their chances to make the playoffs by now, so plan on Brees and company playing with an extra sense of urgency in this one. New Orleans will have to find ways to run the ball effectively without Mark Ingram, who broke his hand after a strong start to his 2014 season.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Saints -10.5
Moneyline: Saints -600, Vikings +450
O/U: 50

Prediction

This is the perfect storm: the Saints are a different team at home and desperately need a win. The Vikings are scrambling and dealing with an unprecedented, ugly situation with their franchise player. Minnesota might be fine this season, but this is going to be a tough week for them. Look for the Saints to put up a crooked number and earn the victory at home.

Final Score: Saints 31, Vikings 13
