Trent Dilfer says Chip Kelly is the best coach he’s ever studied
By Josh Hill
Move over Vince Lombardi, there’s a new greatest coach in the history of football. No, it’s not Bill Belichick, Tony Dungy or even Pete Carroll.

According to ESPN analyst and former Super Bowl winning quarterback Trent Dilfer, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is the greatest coach he’s ever studied. Either Dilfer hasn’t studied many coaches or he isn’t well versed in the history of football, because Chip Kelly still has work to do before he’s the greatest coach anyone ha studied.
Dilfer made his comments on Mike & Mike in the Morning on Thursday;
"“I’m completely, 100 percent all in on Chip Kelly. In my time in football and I’ve been around some really good coaches. Tony Dungy, Brian Billick for a stretch when he had his fastball, Mike Holmgren, obviously, Norv Turner, who is one of the best offensive minds in many years. Of all those people, I think this is the finest football coach I’ve ever studied.”"
Here are some other stupid things Trent Dilfer has said in his short time as an analyst:
- In October 2013 he said the Seattle Seahawks have too many holes to be great. They went on to win the Super Bowl.
- In June 2013, Dilfer said that landing with the New England Patriots was the best thing ever for Tim Tebow. He now works for Good Morning America.
- In December 2010, someone started one of what has to be many Trent Dilfer Hate threads dedicated to all the stupid thing he’s ever said.
- He also said during a MNF game that he never thought he’d look at a fullback as a weapon until watching Marcel Reese — despite playing with Mike Alstott for so many years.
Basically, Trent Dilfer says things to say them and while Chip Kelly might be a standout head coach, the endorsement from Dilfer is as paper thin as it gets.
