Arizona Cardinals veteran outside linebacker John Abraham will not play the rest of the 2014 season after he was placed on the injured reserve following a concussion he suffered in the Cardinals’ Sept. 8 win vs. San Diego.

Abraham, 36, is in his 15th season in the NFL. Abraham was drafted in the first round to the New York Jets and played with them until 2006. Abraham is most well known for his time with the Atlanta Falcons from 2006-2012. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2013.
Abraham, who has multiple arrests for driving under the influence, underwent rehab during the summer while missing a good chunk of training camp.
He took a leave of absence after his concussion in week one and coach Bruce Arians alluded to his dealings off the field as another reason for taking a leave of absence.
“I think with all the things that he’s gone through in the last month, he’s got a lot of things outside of football that he’s never dealt with before,” Arians said. “There are some people that can help him in that regard. I’m not one of them.”
Abraham’s 133½ career sacks are the most among active players. It looks like we could have seen the last of Abraham, who becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and we may choose to retire.
The Cardinals re-signed punter Drew Butler to take Abraham’s spot on the 53-man roster.
