Vernon Davis is feeling encouraged after doing some light running at Friday’s practice and is optimistic he can suit up and play for the San Francisco 49ers in their Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Davis left at the end of the 49ers’ Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears in the regular season home opener at Levi’s Stadium and has not practiced all week and is officially listed as questionable, meaning he has a 50-50 chance to play on Sunday, but is being classified as a game-time decision, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

“Feeling great right now, just have to take it nice and slow and it’s all on how I feel,” Davis said Friday before the team’s flight to Arizona.

Davis had three catches for 39 yards, including a long of 17 yards during Sunday evening’s disappointing loss that saw the 49ers surrender 21 points in the fourth quarter, commit 16 penalties and four turnovers — all from quarterback Colin Kaepernick — in the 28-20 loss.

With the 49ers already playing without key players in NaVorro Bowman, Aldon Smith, Tramaine Brock and Anthony Davis, the 49ers can ill afford to lose their Pro Bowl tight end, especially against the 2-0 and NFC West rival Cardinals.

The Cardinals will be starting quarterback Drew Stanton over Carson Palmer so they’re dealing with injuries as well, so stay tuned to FanSided throughout the weekend and on Sunday morning to see if Davis will be activated.
