The San Francisco 49ers will be without their top two tight ends Sunday as Vernon Davis and Vance McDonald are both inactive for their matchup at University of Phoenix Stadium against the Arizona Cardinals in a key NFC West matchup.

The Cardinals (2-0), meanwhile, will once again be without starting quarterback Carson Palmer because of a shoulder injury. Backup Drew Stanton, who led Arizona to a turnover-free victory at the New York Giants last week, makes his second straight start.

Davis is out with an ankle injury and McDonald has a knee injury.

San Francisco signed tight end Asante Cleveland off their practice roster on Saturday and he is active for the game, while third-stringer Derek Carrier moves to the top of the depth chart.

The 49ers have defensive lineman Demarcus Dobbs and long snapper Kyle Nelson on the roster with tight end designations, as well.

The Cardinals will have running back Andre Ellington, who was listed as probable with a foot injury.

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick was also nicked up with a back injury, but was listed as probable and will start for the 49ers.

Arizona punter Dave Zastudil is out for the third straight game. The Cardinals had cut backup punter Drew Butler on Tuesday, expecting Zastudil to be back from a groin injury, but re-signed Butler on Friday.
