Not all 0-2 starts are created equal. It seemed reasonable to think that was the case when considering the week 3 match-up between the Indianapolis Colts and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Andrew Luck and the Colts proved that was the case in this game, establishing their superiority over the Jaguars early and often en route to a blowout, winning by a final score of 44-17. This game was not without intrigue on Jacksonville’s side of things, however, as rookie quarterback Blake Bortles made his NFL debut.

Luck played a perfect game, taking charge early as the Colts put up 30 points in the first half. In the end Luck went 31-for-39 for 390 yards and four touchdowns. He ran for another 15 yards and played so well that he gave way to backup Matt Hasselbeck in the second half.

Luck threw touchdowns to Ahmad Bradshaw, Hakeem Nicks, Coby Fleener, and Dwayne Allen. Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton led the way in the receiving game, hauling in five passes for 80 yards.

On the Jacksonville side of things, the continued atrocious play of their defense is among the top stories. They have now allowed 119 points in three games. But if Jaguars’ fans are looking for a silver lining, it is certainly the welcome sight of having Bortles in action. Chad Henne attempted just seven passes before the rookie got the call.

Bortles went 14-for-24 for 233 yards and two touchdowns in this one. He did have some rookie moments, as he also threw two interceptions. His best play was absolutely this fake spike for a touchdown late in the game.

The Jaguars are 0-3 and one of the worst teams in the NFL this season. They were predictably blown out in this game, but Bortles at least gave the franchise an excuse to hope for better things to come in the future.

The Colts play the Tennessee Titans in week 4, while the Jaguars travel to San Diego to face the Chargers.
