The New York Yankees are out of playoff contention this year but there is hope for the future in the Bronx. Despite it being the last year for Derek Jeter in New York, the Yankees won’t go quietly into the future and are already looking at replacements in the lineup for not only Jeter but others as well.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, one target the New York Yankees could have is Hanley Ramirez, even though they’re getting Alex Rodriguez back next season.

"Who will add this middle-of-the-order bat if the Dodgers decide not to pony up for Ramirez and shift him to third? The Yankees would always be a possibility, even with Alex Rodriguez coming back. The Dodgers have been hush-hush when it comes to Ramirez’s future. It’s not easy to let a significant righthanded infield bat go."

Ramirez is a classic Yankees signing as he’s a veteran they’ll likely overpay who is past his prime or near the end of it. He’s been so-so with the Dodgers this season and throughout his tenure there, but adding Ramirez could be a sign that the Yankees will attempt to buy their way out of this funk.

He has experience at shortstop, so there’s the possibility Ramirez could slide into Jeter’s old role, but either way the Yankees will be a team to keep an eye on this offseason.
