There’s no denying the talent of Dwight Howard and James Harden. Each are among the best (and quite possibly the best) talent-wise at their respective position, but can they lead?

More from Houston Rockets

It’s been a question looming over Dwight Howard’s head since he was a member of the Orlando Magic. So far, he’s yet to give much of an answer as he’s routinely aligned himself with another star. Case in point, his Houston Rockets teammate James Harden who also has been questioned regarding his ability to be a leader.

Those concerns became even more warranted this offseason when both Howard and Harden took a swipe at their former teammate Chandler Parsons and essentially suggested everybody else on the roster was nothing more than a role player. That actually might be true, but it’s certainly not the way you want to motivate those around you.

Given that, there are still concerns that both Dwight Howard and James Harden are not ready to lead the Houston Rockets at the level they need to.

"There’s no denying the incredible talent of Harden and Howard, but there is reason to seriously question whether they can be the kind of leaders they need to in order to take this franchise to the heights they’re aspiring for. They need to play off of each other when it matters most, not bicker over who ends up with the ball in their hands."

It’s routinely expected that every player who brings elite talent to the court is expected to be a leader, but that’s not always the case. Nobody really knows if that’s true for Dwight Howard and James Harden, though it’s becoming clear that they need to step up if the Houston Rockets are going to become true contenders.
