Both teams kept each other out of the end zone in the first half and Pittsburgh entered the break up 9-3, but the Steelers offense started to pick up after intermission.

Pittsburgh tacked on seven points with 11:10 remaining in the third quarter thanks to a spectacular play from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on a seven-yard score to receiver Antonio Brown.

Roethlisberger and Brown would connect on another seven-yard touchdown a little less than 10 minutes later to push Pittsburgh’s lead to 23-6.

The Panthers would respond on its very next drive with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Newton to tight end Greg Olsen to make it 23-13 in favor of Pittsburgh with 13:28 remaining.

However, the Panthers’ comeback attempt would take an enormous blow minutes later, as a fumbled punt and a Steelers recovery in the end zone made it 30-13 with 11:17 left.

Steelers running back LeGarrette Blount rushed for an eight-yard score with 5:46 left and Panthers rookie receiver Kelvin Benjamin hauled in a 35-yard score from Derek Anderson with 4:01 left to round out the game’s scoring.

Roethlisberger finished the game 22-30 for 196 yards and and two touchdowns. Le’Veon Bell led the way for the Steelers on the ground with 147 yards on 21 carries, while Brown was Pittsburgh’s No. 1 wideout on the day, catching 10 balls for 90 yards and two scores.

On the other side, Newton was 24-35 for 250 yards with a touchdown pass. Jonathan Stewart rushed for 31 yards on five carries and rookie Kelvin Benjamin was Newton’s top target, catching eight passes for 115 yards and a score.

The Steelers will take on the Bucs next time out at home abd the Panthers will face off against the Baltimore Ravens on the road this following Sunday at 1 p.m.
