It is not entirely surprising that the Pirates found themselves in a pitcher’s duel with the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. The Braves bottomed out this season due to a punchless and inconsistent offense, a meltdown that ultimately cost general manager Frank Wren his job. As for the Pirates, they seem to be the team that always finds just enough offense, but they don’t necessarily overwhelm opponents with their lineup.
The one thing that the Pirates have over the Braves and any other team in the National League, however, is Andrew McCutchen. The defending NL MVP showed just how valuable he is, especially this time of year, by delivering a deciding home run in this game. The Pirates went on to beat the Braves 1-0.
Here is video of McCutchen’s home run in his team’s victory over the Braves on Monday night.
